Ladies Live Poker Stats

Did you know in WSOP 2011, four open events out of fifty-eight, saw female players such as Maria Ho, Odette Tremblay, Kim a.k.a. Stephanie Nguyen and Vanessa Peng make it to the top ten positions. The WSOP 2012 however was a much more successful year for the ladies where ten open events out of sixty-one saw fourteen ladies make it to the top ten positions! Legendary Vanessa Selbst won open Event #52 taking away $244,259 and a WSOP main event bracelet for the 2nd time! She was the last lady to win an open event in 2008, and yet, she does it again. Well done Vanessa! Girlsdopoker has compiled a list of WSOP events where ladies made it to the top ten positions. You can see the women poker highlights here.

Maria Ho Final Table at WSOP 2011 Event #4 – No Limit Hold’em

As the poker world is dominated by men, it can be intimidating for some ladies who want to get into the game, especially in live tournaments. Ladies only tournaments can help those who feel more comfortable to play with women only, gain confidence in the game before facing a mixed poker tournament. However, poker is a game for both sexes and GirlsDoPoker encourages women to play live poker in open tournaments too, as should be, afterall, we are for equality, right? Imagine we were not allowed to play in a poker tournament because it was for men only!

WSOP Interview with Maria Ho. On being female and playing in a competition largely dominated by men: “I think in terms of my ability as a poker player and when people talk about great poker players, I hope someday to be in there in a gender-neutral way. But if my finish, and how I do, and any success in poker I have had is something that other females can share and enjoy and that will perhaps bring them into the game, then I feel happy to say I contributed to that. But at the end of the day, I want to be one of the best, male or female.”

To conclude, online poker is far more convenient to start your game, playing against both sexes. Online poker is easier as everything is automated making the game faster. At the touch of a mouse you are in control of which actions to take, check, bet/raise, call, fold and all the chips are automatically added or deducted. You can practice poker online before playing live tournaments so you have no excuse not to play in mixed tournaments. We want to see more women at the poker tables. ;)
